3D Environments
3D environments are very popular in the creation of games, TV and Film. These environments can either be created though a 3D modelling software or through layering different images over one another to create a 3D like effect.
3D Models
3D models can be made within many different fields of work. 3D models can be created for Gaming, Film and TV, any kind of 3D printing model. One day, 3D printing could perhaps be very essential to everyday life as we may make every product though a 3D printer because it is far more advanced than the techniques we use make products to date.
3D in Product Design,
The application of 3D is used in Product Design to create a prototype of your product to then be presented to stakeholders or other form of investors. It's also a good way to get an idea of how the product is going to function/look.
3D in TV and Films,
3D is used in TV and Film a lot but its used most in animated shows and films. One TV Show that uses 3D models is Family Guy. Family Guy was first aired on 31st January 1999. This show is completely computer generated (CG). Everything you see in this show, characters, environment and other surround object is made digitally.
3D is also used in the film series named, Toy Story. Toy Story was the first feature-length in 1995 which was fully created using CG to created the environments, characters and other objects. There were 3D films before these but they where shorts, not full length films.
3D in the Web
3D in the web is something that doesn't really exist right now. One way that 3D could be implemented into the web is by creating 3D walkthroughs on websites. For example, you could have a website that sells different holiday's. You could use 3D to actually see when the hotel looks like with free roam.
3D in Education
3D could be revolutionary in education. 3D could be used to allow children to have a more hands on experience to education as well as it may provide better information easier. Imaging using 3D to walk through a museum in a biology lesson or to use it to visit space. It would be far more interesting to the pupil than what it is right now.
3D Architectural Walk-through
3D can be used to create a building plan to see what the outcome would look like without sinking time and money into it and then deciding it isn't exactly what you want.
3D models are used in the architectural field to get a base plan for a building/structure before the build actually goes to do the labor of making it by hand. The builder can also use these models as a reference to get a understanding of time, whether they are on schedule or if they are behind.
In Engineering 3D is used to created different components to machinery. It would be mainly be used to see how these components work together before actually making the object(s). For example, if you had a water heater and you needed to set up piping you would make a model to have a general idea of how this setup will do.
